Artur Szpilka, Johann Duhaupas Return With Quick KO Wins

October 30th, 2019 (last updated)

Over in Sosnowiec, Polish middleweight Fedor Cherkashin (14-0) stopped Argentinean Guido Nicolas Pitto (26-7-2) in the first. Cherkshin caught his opponent early and kept the pressure and Pitto never recovered. He was punching back at the end but took a beating and it was stopped.

The great all-Polish matchup at light heavy between Pawel Stepien and Marek Matyja never happend as Stepien was forced off the bill due to an injury. Instead French veteran Tony Averlant (27-12-2) was called in and was stopped in six by Matyja (17-1-2).

Former WBC heavyweight challenger Artur Szpilka (23-4) stopped Italian Fabio Tuiach (29-7) in the first after a poor performance from Tuiach.

Szpilka told that this was his final fight at heavyweight. He will from now on campaign at cruiserweight.

Tough French heavyweight Johann Duhaupas (38-5) had his first fight since losing to Jarrell Miller in April of 2018, this past Friday (Oct 25) night in Lyon and knocked out Mexican Luis Pascual (14-6) in the third of a scheduled eight-rounder.

There is an interesting domestic showdown on the horizon for Johann and that is a fight against Tony Yoka but if it can be made is an open question.

In the UK, Abass Baraou (8-0, 5 KOs) defended his WBC International Super Welterweight title with a sensational sixth round technical knockout over John O’Donnell (33-3, 11 KOs) on the same night Denis Radovan (13-0-1, 6 KOs) was victorious over Luke Blackledge (26-9-2, 9 KOs) on the World Boxing Super Series undercard at The 02, London.

Baraou, fighting in the UK for the first time in his professional career, took just six rounds to dismantle former Commonwealth and British Champion O’Donnell. O’Donnell touched the canvas in the sixth following a barrage of punches, and shortly after beating the count the referee waved off the bout after another sustained attack from Baraou.
