Olejniczak Invited To Polish National Team Training Camp

Dominik Olejniczak, who will play the 2019-20 season as a graduate transfer at Florida State, has been invited to training camp with the National Team of Poland as the team works towards playing in the 2019 FIBA World Cup of Basketball.

Poland clinched a spot in the World Cup for the first time since 1967 with a 77-69 victory over Croatia during the FIBA EuroBasket Qualifier in February of 2019. Since taking part in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, Poland’s best finish at was FIBA EuroBasket was seventh, a result achieved at the 1981, 1987, 1991 and 1997 and 2009 editions of the tournament.

Olejniczak begins his journey on July 29 as he attends two weeks of training camp in the town of Walbrzych in southwest Poland.

The team will then play at a tournament in Prague, Czech Republic and games in Hamburg, Germany and Lublin, Poland before going to Beijing, China for the World Cup. Poland has been placed in Group A at the World Cup Tournament along with China, Venezuela, and the Ivory Coast. Poland will play its first game against Venezuela on Sunday, August 31 at the Wukseong Sport Arena with its second game coming against Ivory Coast on Wednesday, September 4.

The 18th FIBA Basketball World Cup with 32 teams, is the largest edition of FIBA’s flagship event. The tournament is taking place in China for the first time in its history and will be played over a period of 16 days. The Final of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will take place in Beijing on Sunday, September 15. The newly-crowned world champion will receive the new FIBA Basketball World Cup Trophy.

For the first time, the FIBA Basketball World Cup will qualify seven teams directly for the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan. The top ranked teams from Africa, Asia and Oceania and the top two ranked teams each from the Americas and Europe at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will all qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The 16 next best teams at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will each be granted a place in one of the four FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2020 where they will have another chance to qualify for the Olympic Games.
