Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!
Sunday is your day, and it looks pretty good even with a little rain in the forecast.
Today is Mother’s Day, a day when people remember the myriad ways in which their mothers fed, watered, clothed, nursed, supported, tolerated, and (generally) raised them.
It’s time to spring for some overpriced pastel-colored flowers, organize a brunch, select a candle or spa package, cobble together a breakfast in bed, and give thanks to the person that tradition and patriarchy has designated as the parent who does the majority of childrearing and household labor (with my apologies to those fathers who do their part and/or solo parent).
Mother’s Day is celebrated in much the same way across the globe.
The celebration is rooted in an ancient Greek festival that celebrated women, fertility and the family.
But nowadays Mother’s Day is more a chance for children, husbands and grandchildren to show the matriarchs in their families how much they appreciate them.
Gifting chocolates and cards is a common Mother’s Day practice.
While others may wish to treat their mum to a special meal or a grander gesture like a spa day.
However you choose to celebrate Mother’s Day, this list of special greetings and poems could help you write the perfect Mother’s Day message.
The USA has a large Hispanic community and many may want to wish their mum or grandmother a Happy Mother’s Day in Spanish tomorrow.
Happy Mother’s Day in Spanish is “Feliz Día de la Madre.”
